Running Until I Reach the Finish

By Tyler Currie

Have you ever taken the time to think over your personal World View and know what you believe? My goal in this essay is to discuss some of the things that I personally believe. I will be answering seven questions: What is God like, What is the nature of the universe, What is the nature of man, What is the basis of morality and ethics, What is the cause of evil and suffering, What happens to man at death, and What is the meaning of history? As you read through this essay I encourage you to be thinking over your personal views so you know what you believe.

I am a Christian, and as you could easily guess, I believe in God. what do I believe God is like then? He is a loving, caring God who is in control of everything. I believe God is all-powerful, all knowing, eternal, self existent, and has no limitations. I believe in the trinity, God is three in one: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God is not limited by anything. What is so amazing to me is to know God is a loving God who longs to have a personal relationship with his children. He loves us so much he was willing to send his own son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins, so through him we can be saved. I find it extremely comforting to know the creator of the universe loves me.

God is the creator of the universe; it was not created by chance! How could something so amazing and organized as the universe be an accident? It can't be! God made every little thing in the universe. Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." He created everything out of nothing, and he did it in seven days. God created every part of the universe, and the earth is only man's temporary home.

Man's nature is sinful. In the beginning man was created in the image of God, but because of Adam's decision to sin we are fallen. We are all sinners and have no hope unless we rely on God. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Man is spiritually dead in sin. We need God for salvation and to be made spiritually alive through Jesus Christ. It is impossible for us not to sin in our life but if we walk with God our lives will be different by obeying His word, in everything that we do, to glorify His name.

Some People say you can't put things into a right and wrong category, but then anything could be ok. You have to have moral standards to follow or you could do anything. God gives us standards we are expected to follow. The Bible tells us about things that are right and wrong. God tells us how we should live our life so we can try to keep away from worldly living. Christianity is not just a code of ethics, but a personal relationship between you and God. If we live and walk with God, our lives will be better even when we suffer.

Man chose to sin on his own free will. Evil entered the world by Adam's choice to sin. Satan is the source of all evil. God is not the source of evil, he is going to destroy all evil and judge the wicked. Why doesn't God just destroy evil now? The day is coming, but God is compassionate because every day he waits people come to know him and are saved. Ezekiel 33:11 says, "Say to them, ‘As surely as I live’, declares the sovereign Lord, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Isreal?’" Suffering will end too, but until then we will experience suffering. All we can do when we suffer is rely fully on God to get through the pain, and know even though we can't understand, God has a reason for everything and he is in control of everything. The day is coming when there will be no more evil or suffering for those who follow the Lord.

What happens to man at death? Those who have a personal relationship with God will be with him in paradise forever. Those who do not walk with the Lord will be eternally punished in hell, separated from God for eternity. All evil men will be judged and every man will confess that Jesus is Lord. As a Christian I am anxiously waiting for this day that I will be in the presence of my Savior.

The only way you can properly view history is to have Jesus Christ as the center-piece of everything. Jesus came to die for us so that we could be saved through him. Jesus is going to return and history will be completed. Satan and all evil will be destroyed. All of us who have been saved will be with the Lord forever. No one but God knows when this glorious day will be but the Bible constantly tells us to be ready.

I want to be running with all of my might to the finish line where my Savior waits for me. I want to serve the Lord with all my life so when I stand before His throne he will look at me and say, "Well done my good and faithful servant." No one deserves to be saved, but God's mercy is amazing. Are you ready to stand before your maker? Do you know if you will be in the presence of Jesus Christ for eternity or separated from him being tormented in hell forever? All you have to do is run to him and his loving arms will embrace you and never let you go.
